Sustainability

About Project Mumbai

The collaborations have set in motion the double agenda of awareness and action. Infused with careful planning to minimise environmental impact, the festival embraces beach cleanup initiatives, digital innovation, discarding printed materials to reduce paper waste.

It champions zero-waste initiatives through eco-friendly transportation options like carpooling, biking, and use of public transport, supported by information on transportation and bike parking spaces. The festival opts for reusable decorations, such as cloth banners and potted plants, achieving minimalism while reducing disposable decor waste.

With their tagline as “Mumbai ke liye kuch bhi karega”, Project Mumbai would bring a sense of shared responsibility towards the environment through well-planned initiatives throughout the nine days of the grand celebration of Aamchi Mumbai.

Participants are encouraged to bring reusable containers, water bottles, and cutlery, reinforcing the eco-conscious theme. The festival pledges to use biodegradable or compostable materials, creating an eco-friendly ambience aligned with global sustainability efforts.

The festival is making maximum efforts to utilize green energy from the power companies, modular reusable infrastructure and staging, low-energy consuming technical equipment and recyclable materials.

Our Commitment to Sustainability

Driving Awareness and Actions

Beach Clean Ups

Jallosh-Clean Coast, an initiative by Project Mumbai (An organisation fostering inclusivity, accessibility, and safety for all) in collaboration with MCGM, NGOs, corporate partners, and citizens, has received the Limca Book of Records 2019 for the largest Public-Private-People Partnership. Their aim is to clear coastal plastic waste, converting it to valuable recyclable items including benches, bins, compass boxes, and pens.

Inclusivity

Wheelchairs will be available at the Project Mumbai Kiosk, featuring Mumbai Festival partner logo branding.

A specially designated washroom will be provided for differently-abled individuals, contributing to a more inclusive experience.

The goal of Mumbai Festival is to foster inclusivity, promote diversity, and create a welcoming environment for people from all walks of life. This initiative aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, religions, and communities that make Mumbai a truly diverse and vibrant city.

A heritage walk through the historically rich destination of Byculla Zoo with focus is on creating a sensory-rich experience for all.

With a focus on accessibility, the physical infrastructure has been carefully examined, including smooth ramps, navigable pathways, and the availability of accessible washrooms.

Tactile models of animals and birds will enhance the experience for those with visual impairments, while sign language interpreters will ensure the inclusion of participants with hearing impairments.

This aims to celebrate diversity, prioritize inclusivity, and open the wonders of Byculla Zoo to all participants. It promises to be an opportunity to make lasting memories and forge connections in this incredible space that unites individuals in the spirit of exploration and appreciation.

Awareness and Effective E-waste Management

Electronic waste, or e-waste, refers to discarded electronic devices such as smartphones, laptops, and other electronic gadgets. E-waste poses a looming environmental threat, as its improper disposal leads to toxic pollution and resource depletion. Urgent action is required to reduce the escalating impact of electronic waste on our planet.

To address this issue in Mumbai, effective recycling methods and responsible electronic waste management practices such as E-waste collection drives are being conducted under Mumbai Festival.

SBI Banking Partner of Mumbai Festival is taking the first step by not only educating the employees and customers but also amplifying the awareness around it through collection drives.

The Earth Film Contest

An endeavour designed to elevate awareness regarding environmental issues and champion sustainability through the compelling mediums of storytelling and visual media, The Earth Film Festival is an initiative driven by United Nations, International Indian Film Academy, leading film-making institutions, NFDC and the National Museum of Indian Cinema as well as PVR-INOX.

Inviting filmmakers and environmentally conscious individuals to participate in a contest shall serve as an excellent avenue for them to articulate their ardor, propagate awareness, and actively contribute to fostering positive change on a global scale.

#EarthMovie Mumbai originates from a long-term vision of generating awareness, providing solutions that can be implemented and activating the same at scale. We must set an example that other cities can follow and build a movement to initiate action with speed and at scale. It’s an initiative from Mumbai to the World.
